Scientists have been developing Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) technology decades. It has diverse applications ranging from moving cargo at airports to transporting people on campuses and in cities. The developers of Masdar City, a carbon neutral, car free community in Abu Dhabi, are implementing an innovative and advanced PRT system that will include multiple podcars that are guided by a central computer and powered by solar panels. Planners face construction and programming challenges are they set out to build the infrastructure and expand the system.

Dar es Salaam in Tanzania is a city on the move. This East African city has an average annual growth rate of 7%, so it’s bustling with people doing business; buying and selling goods and services.
But, congested roadways and heavy traffic make it difficult for businesses to thrive in this port city, so the government and the World Bank have worked together to create a new Rapid Bus Transit system to speed up rush hour and get these busy Tanzanians where they need to be.

Future transport: China launches futuristic, trackless ‘smart train’ – TomoNews
ZHUZHOU, CHINA— A city in China has launched a test run for a futuristic urban transport system that’s being called the world’s first ‘smart train’.
Described as a cross between a train, tram, and bus, the Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit is a 32meter electric vehicle that runs at a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour, according to Xinhua News.
The ART is equipped with sensors to help it read road dimensions as it travels along a virtual track made up of dotted white lines painted on the road.
The \”smart train\” has three carriages, and is capable of carrying up to 300 passengers.
The selfdriving system uses rubber tires instead of steel wheels, and can travel up to 25 kilometers after a 10minute charge.
At the moment, the train traverses a 3.1kilometer route, traveling through four stations in the city of Zhuzhou, in the country’s Hunan province.
A longer route is being planned, with the transport system aiming to eventually expand to other cities.
