  1. An alternative mod-free socket 775 CPU is the Core2 Quad Q9550 (2.83 GHz, 12 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz bus speed, 95 watt TDP). As of July 2021 they sell for around $25 on eBay. The Q9650 is slightly (6%) faster at 3.0 GHz but sells for about twice as much. I replaced a Q6600 in a Dell XPS 420 with a Q9550 and increased the PassMark performance score by 35%.

  2. just fired up my old Xeon X5460 motherboard. I am using it as a media player. Hooked up to an old EVGA 640 graphics card @1080p on an old Panasonic 58" plasma. Beautiful picture and smooth 60 fps.

  3. I just wanted to thank you for this. I haven't viewed this video in over 3 years, but because of this, I was able to upgrade my old PC using this as a 12 year old, and I gamed on it for over 2 years. Thanks man, you made it possible.

  4. Can't get a X5450 to run in HP DC8000 Elite SFF as BIOS wont accept it and can't tweak the BIOS on this baby. hey ho, time to sell the XEON on and get a Q9550 /9650 instead I think.

  5. Hi! I bought a processor, converted the socket on the motherboard (ABIT IP 35-E), added an adapter for the processor, and additionally installed a modified BIOS with micro chips. Everything works, the processor is correctly recognized in the system and programs, the temperature is normal. There is only one problem, the computer absolutely does not want to hibernate, that is, it goes to sleep immediately, but it cannot be woken up. Instead of the desktop, the computer behaves as if I just turned it on, i.e. it turns on twice, then the black screen turns off and that's it. Only the reset helps there is nothing in the event viewer about this problem, I played with all possible settings in the BIOS, I restored the settings a few times, including selecting the optimal settings, removing the battery, resetting the CMOS jumper, playing with the power settings, even disconnecting all devices peripheral and even a second hard drive to check and there is absolutely no difference. In the BIOS, S1 mode works but S3 mode does not. Any advice? 🙁

  6. HI, I have a issue with a Xeon i just installed on older ASUS P5QL SE MB which has quads in its specifications so can handle 4 cores. Windows 7 installed, socket 775 Put a modified Xeon in and its stable and working ok at about the same speed as my old core 2 Duo but CPU-Z ect is only showing 2 cores and 2 threads?. I went into Msconfig and advanced/boot and only 1,2 cores are there to change; shouldnt 1-4 be available? I have original BIOS and also if this makes a diff the bios is set to IDE not ACHI but i tried changing it to ACHI and it wouldnt boot so put it back to IDE and its fine and working. Would that setting need to be changed or is it only for security ect eventhough ACHI is more up to date?. would i have to have loaded windows fresh set to Achi to use ACHI? and do i need to worry as the computer is Win 7 anyway? So do the settings in BIOS make any diff to 4 cores being seen? Thanks for any assistance you can give
    Tim
