  1. honestly most people won't need more than the 8700k or i5 equivalents. Unless you notice your pc acting funny or slowing down when you're trying to do something, you probably don't need a new pc for whatever it is you're doing.

  2. For those wondering I'm using this CPU with a rtx 3080 and it's a wonderful pairing with the cpu suffering no to little bottle necking for my gaming and productivity purposes. 2k monitor rn getting a 4k 144hz monitor soon so let's see if it's enough to handle it

  3. That's why I stick with the X series, more cores with the ability to overclock very well and disable cores when not needed always gave me a perfect workstation with the ability to game when I wanted. Losing 10 or even 30fps is none of my concern when needing 18 cores for things other than gaming. Just wish I had known a 99 an 10 series x chips were coming so fast so I wouldn't have had to delid but that is my fault they are intel after all. Of course for just gaming the X series makes zero financial sense but for me there's no such thing as a gaming only PC.

  4. Love my 8700k paired with a MSI OC'd RX 5700XT GPU in 2021, even with just a 120mm AIO (dual fans, push and pull) it rips. I just did a Ryzen 3900x + RTX 3070 Rog Strix+128Gb of ram build that cost close to $7,000 CAD including a Samsung G9 monitor (240 hz 5k ultrawide) and as super sick as it is to game on I don't feel like my rig is any sort of a downgrade after gaming on it (with the exception of the 240hz refresh rate on the monitor obviously, that extra 120hz is special).

  5. i bought my 8700k about 3 years ago, and i understand the anger from the 2700k community, but i made a much larger leap then that, i went from a 2700k to the 8700k. here is my build.

msi gaming pro carbon, i wanted the godlick but limited money.
msi rx 580 oc armor edition.
    2 evo 850 ssds plus an m.2
noctua nh-d15 big bulky but amazingly good at cooling the cpu
cooler master silent pro gold 1000 watt

other then my rx 580 being a bit dated, i can still run high 4k on most games, besides the utmost demanding. waiting for the 3080 to come out.

  6. AMD don't seem to hold up very long when it comes to gaming frame rates, this is the only thing that has annoyed me with their newer processors. Also i don't mean they suck, I'm just saying Intel tend to have higher performance for longer. The 8700k was released before the 2000 series and in all gaming benches here it's better than even the 3000 series..

  7. Was thinking of upgrading the kid's i7 8700k pc with a i9 9900k.
Was only going to cost $200 au after selling the 8700k but now i see it is just not worth it.
    cheers Steve

  8. i have a 3080 and i feel the need to upgrade my 8700k.. i only get 65% gpu usage and my cpu usage is usally around 90-100% in most AAA titles. so my frames suffer, when i notice my gpu usage spike up to 80% i get a huge spike in frames, so ill go from 160fps 65% usage to 90% 210fps… dont think the 8700k keeps up with the3080 too well

  9. I got i5 8400 and Gigabyte H370 HD3 mobo 2666mhz ram. What's the good path for me between two either I update i7 8700 or change mobo to B460 or h470 and pair it with 10400f. Upgrading to new platform only costing me $15 – $20.

  10. Upgraded to this from an i5 4670, so needless to say the performance jump was amazing. It’s definitely still going strong in 2021, running at 4.8 (all cores) on an R1 Ultimate air cooler.

  11. No reason not to still run my 8700K @ 5.0 all core/1.35V…while watching people getting unfortunately gouged by the same speculative sellers who will eventually proclaim to respect and cherish their customers patronage long after this mess is over.
