Is it possible to change the NVIDIA graphics card in the DELL PRECISION M6800 laptop?
To anyone reading this, the Dell M6800 works will all Maxwell cards (965m, 970m, 980m, M4000M, M5000M) with a tiny modification to the heatsink using a rotary tool. This is due to the different layout of the Maxwell cards versus the Kepler cards, the R22 capacitor (the big grey block(s)) had been shifted and the OEM Dell Heatsink is thus, blocked from sitting on the Maxwell gpu. Once this mod has been done, just make sure to play around with the thermal pads to ensure that they are all getting in contact with the heatsink.
As for AMD, I believe these models work with the M390X and RX 480 mobile gpus, but this depends on whether your model is using LVDS or eDP (this is evident by the placement of the LCD connector on the motherboard, the pin layout is different).
I've also heard that the M6800 works with cards as new as the P5000, even with with LVDS, but it would appear that a vBIOS flash is required if using LVDS. Nice to have many options for this machine, one of the few laptops that aged like fine wine.

After working yeas on m6800 I can tell you to be carefull when pulling the keyboard ribbonYou have to undo the clasp first. They strip easily when taking them out like you did in this video….

Sir, I see you have 4 rams here (2 in the back and 2 in the front) may I ask how many gb of RAM you're running in total ? Can I just swap rear ones with 2×16 (or even 2×32) ? Amazing video btw, may be in the future I'll upgrade the CPU as well 🙂

I bought a Dell Precision M6800 (256ssd, 16gb ram) 5 years ago, still going strong apart from a broken hinge that needs fixing. You think I should upgrade my graphics cards from NVIDIA Quadro K4100M w/4GB GDDR5 to NVIDIA Quadro K5100M 8 GB or save for a new laptop? cost of the graphics card is £300.

Just added 1-7 4800 Quad core+dual SSD's+1866Mhz memory+ Nvidia K5000 video card+new thermal pastes=Fast as hell now!!!!! Love it!! This 6800 is probably faster than most new laptops avail today. Just wish I could afford a I-7 4940 unlocked. Love the build quality of the 6800
I dont know but dell m6800 is greatest laptop for my 3d design with quadro GPU. Its damn fast even in 2020.
