Buying one here soon, was going to buy a gaming laptop but I have plans for an mITX rig so.. high-end workstation laptop it is!
This is an awesome machine. I bought one last year from a local recycling company for $150. It has the i7 3940, K4000, 16 GB RAM and the 1080p display. I doubled the RAM with some stuff I found at the Goodwill Outlet ($1.19/lb, so basically pennies), installed a 500 GB SSD and a 2 TB SSHD. For an older machine it still holds its own and is my go-to when I need something portable.

I had one of these in use until very recently. Unfortunately it started freezing for no reason, with the screen going black. Even during an OS installation. So I had to retire it from service.
Both the i7 dell m6500 and m6700 are able to keep up with laptops of today with an upgrade of ssd disk and RAM. Both handle 4k and with a 500GB – 1 TB Samsung EVO SSD & 24GB RAM they do professional office work very well.
Beautiful, and if that custom vbios for the GPU is really stable and can play all the games, then this is probably one of the best laptops out there in terms of features

I'm a Thinkpad fanboy who's thinking about getting this or a similar Dell laptop. The main reason for considering the switch in the abysmal displays of Thinkpads. Would you say the Dell m6700 has a brighter display than a comparable Thinkpad like the T/W 540?

I bought mines refurbished.paid 350 had my computer guy so some up grades got 1 T bit of memmory faster hard Drive New memory chip's faster .and when the kid's play game's online ..omg wow speed is great ….with some TLC and 150$ upgrade this computer will last for year's….no need to ever buy a new One

Please somebody answer. My laptop is dell m4700. It's 16gb core i7 and @2.80 GHz. I think
it has two graphic cards including quadro k4000m a and another one. But i got a game with 3.5 GHz. Ant the game is performing so low and feels like it's in slow motion. BTW it's Windows 10. Could it be because of the cpu ? And One more thing, can I upgrade my laptop cpu ?
Now that is a pro laptop. All the relevant ports for the time, no compromises for the sake of "thinness."

That background noise sounds dumb as hell. Really distracting. Is this a song you listen to regularly? I can hardly stand one listening. And those interlude pauses you make between comments…they're too noticeable and it just seems like your dragging it on for no real reason other than to follow some BS video production style thing or to make the video longer than it should be. Please stop. Pausing sounds really corny especially with the clown song filling in for the awkward silence between comments.

Custom ROM for the GPU please
I managed to get one of these a couple of months ago for $300. It’s specs are slightly different (i7-3720QM, 16 gb RAM, Nvidia Quadro K4000M 4 gb, and a 250 gb SSD) also it has a webcam, but no fingerprint sensor. I was wondering if there’s a way to flash the bios on my model to adjust the clock speed of the K4000M
You should upgrade the ram to 32gb as you have an i7-3940XM which allows you to use the ather ram slots
I saw also AMD Firepro version with same Intel CPU. Wonder how's the performance compared to yours.
My M6700 is fully specced out with the 3940XM, 32GB RAM, Quadro K5000m, and the rarely seen touch screen. It's built to last and hasn't let me down since I got it maybe a year or so ago, performing much better than the stock configuration I got it in! If you have a link to the custom BIOS you used for the K5000m or still have the file, could you link it somewhere? As I'm looking to squeeze a little more performance out of my K5000m, since it's free!
I just refurbished an M4700 and M6700. I love those laptops. They are stupid heavy though.

I upgraded my MSI gt70 0nd cpu i7 3630qm to i7 3940xm and my gpu gtx 1060m (eurocom) and it made a huge difference on performance when I played Star wars battlefront 2 and all Resident Evil games series. what did you do to get custom bios?

You know that you can overclock the processor, upgrade the ram, the gpu (like GTX970M/980M/P4000/P5000) and also the panel (even 4k work on it) ?

Its cheaper to put a GTX 680m in or even a GTX 980m than get get a K5000m. You can use a much smaller dell latitude power supply to if you're out and about, and adjust the power settings on the m6700m

How did you flash the vbios? I've got a K4000M, but it's clocked slower than K5000M so it's age is starting show. Anything to increase it's performance is welcomed.
Do you Know if the battery splice uses 18650 cells ?? It'd be nice to be able to swap out the cells once the battery starts to die out

I just picked up this same model for $450. I needed a second 17" laptop and the M6700 is perfect for my needs. I'm glad I bought it. Thanks for the video. Nice job, and you reinforced my sentiments on the laptop.
Bought one for 25$ from work. Im curious to see how it works. Its pretty dinged up cosmetically but otherwise it seems fine.
