The Ministry of Defence headquarters is a historic building in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon District. It sits opposite the Grand Palace on Sanam Chai Road, in the heart of the historic Rattanakosin Island. The building, in the neoPalladian style of the neoclassical movement, was built as the Front Soldiers’ Barracks in 1882–1884 to designs by Italian architect Joachim Grassi. It has served as the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence since the ministry’s establishment in 1887.

The former Rattanakosin Kingdom is the old town of Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (known as Bangkok to foreigners). King Rama I (Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok Maharaj), the first king of the Chakri dynasty, founded Bangkok on the east bank of the Chao Phraya as the new capital of Thailand 239 years ago. It is a very pleasant area where you can walk and explore wonderfully. The best thing to do is to simply drift along without stubbornly following a goal with a map in hand like an orienteer. Sure, I had a start and an end point. I also have previous knowledge and know where north and east are. The position of the sun can help. So I was more flexible in discovering and filming. Actually, that’s how I always do it. Please follow me, it’s worth it!

Das ehemalige Rattanakosin Königreich ist die Altstadt von Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (bei den Ausländern als Bangkok bekannt). König Rama I (Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok Maharaj), der erste König der ChakriDynastie, gründete vor 239 Jahren Bangkok am Ostufer des Chao Phraya als neue Hauptstadt Thailands. Es ist eine sehr angenehme Gegend, wo man wunderbar spazieren und entdecken kann. Am besten man lässt sich zwischendurch einfach treiben, ohne wie ein Orientierungsläufer mit der Karte in der Hand stur ein Ziel zu verfolgen. Klar, ich hatte einen Start und einen Endpunkt. Auch habe ich Vorkentnisse und weiss wo Norden und Osten ist. Der Sonnenstand kann da helfen. So war ich flexibler beim Entdecken und Filmen. Eigentlich mach ich das immer so. Folgt mir doch bitte, es lohnt sich!
