1. They are VERY similar. If you check your ego at the door, you realize they are so similar, that realistically, in the studio there are so many discrepancies from the source.. even with the same exact signal chain.. that these MINOR differences will never be noticed.

  2. As you don’t do the a/b test correctly I’ve Re-edited your video and what it shows when the 2 samples are put right next to each other, is exactly what I expected.
Having owned both units, clearly the difference is this:

The vintech is dull on bottom, and top end q, and not as open

The Vintech is sort of not dynamic!

The Neve 1073 original or original reissue or, 1073pda stereo all sound the same they are not dull like Vintech and they are wide open !

Vintech really is the least close 1073 clone why not ab 2 test of samples next to each other, the right way!
And use a BAE not a bloody Vintech!

Vintech are a $2k good value preamps but not a 1073 Pre amp tone!

The Vintech and 1073 in fact are no more than 90% the same tone

The BAE and 1073 are above 90% the same and we all know it!!!!!

  3. These guys are as bias as a white high school coach in the 50s whose short son is competing a against a tall strong black man. They ooze bias and are even blind to how much better the vintage neve sound.

  4. Listening in my studio on good monitors. I am surprised all these guys in their studio couldn't hear the difference. I wanted to like the Vintec but OMG the 1073s are sooo much better! They sound similar but they feel so different. The Neves have a dimension and harmonic content that melts that piano into my brain. I could listen forever. The Vintecs sound great, clean and nice. Great Piano micing in general though. Nice comparison, but I still don't know what to buy now lol.

  5. The Vintech X73I sounded really good but the magic is in the Neve 1073. It had a larger than life sound as well as a richness the Vintech fell short of. Maybe in 20 years my Vintech X73, (3) X73I and 273 will sound more like the original. Dallas has made a fine product but I can hear the difference in the shootout like night and day. Even my pair of BAE 1073 doesn't sound the same as the original.

  6. 98% same sound wave but as the vintech slaps itself on the back and finishes for the day, the neve stays late and captures the universe dew

  7. Seems like the Neve had a more glorious flatulent quality remeniscent of Elephant Gas, while the Vintech had more of a Castrated Demi God sort of Eunuch flare… I could be wrong…

  8. Fantastic. If you want pristine clarity the vintech was perfect. If you want (slightly) lossy but AMAZING vibe and ear gold the 1073 is just…it’s beautiful. Great demo guys.

  9. The Neve has the low mid thing down but the Vintech has more presence in the upper mids. There's variance between the Neve's tho so hard to know if he took a battery of read outs to make the Vintech and it's just different overall than the 1 1073 used for this recording or if it is just "off" as some have alluded to. Regardless for a piano I would prefer the upper clarity because of how I fit them in my compositions.

  10. I'm listening on a galaxy phone right now, and although their tones seem very close in color.. I simply heard a "life" that the original had.. how did I decide that? It simply seemed to move me more, and I swore I heard a more robust representation of tones/overtones (someone mentioned that seeing a piano vs a console might trigger a pseudo effect in your mind lol.. that could be true!?) So I've definitely got to check it out next time I'm in my studio in blind test fashion!

& To those who say there's a difference, then I'd recommend checking out the scheps 73 instead of the vintec (if they're looking for another alternative at a much lower price)

    Cool video!

  11. Obviously the Neve is gonna have a 'warmer' more rounded out sound, and obviously the low end is going to appear more robust. Its because they are frikin' ancient and worked in. If you took a time machine and brought a fresh from the factory Neve from the 60s and put it against the Vintech, it would likely have the same, brighter sound. When circuits age, the frequency spectrum will change slightly and give the illusion of fatness, but that fatness is just our ears interpreting the 'murkiness' of the imperfect spectrum. I bet if the engineer did a 1 db drop on the extreme highs on the vintech, and a one db boost at 100hz, increased the volume .5 db total, and said it was the Neve, every single person here would be like 'oh my god the Neve is so much warmer'! I have an original Minimoog, and then I listened to the new version which uses the same components. TOTALLY different. It appears sooo much thinner. Cause my Minimoog was made when Jim Morrison was alive!

  12. The Neve sounded 3D and complex with rich tonality like a large budget recording and the vintech sounded completely flat like a bottom of the line beginner piece of equipment, it even had some ugly distortion I didn't like mixed in. To me there's just a huge difference. I could pick these out in an ABX blind test all day. I went into this wanting to believe the more inexpensive gear would do well, but it doesn't. That being said, this is a very revealing and informative video with a good source sound that revealed the difference.

  13. For a good comparison technique download the audio (it's not great quality anyway) and put the audio files on two different tracks and solo between both.

  14. There is no difference. They 100% Phase cancel each other. i kept skipping between the two (4:265:40) click the times here to save trouble. I heard no difference through my monitors or my headphones. like he said, it's hard to argue with. and to test peoples psychological theory about bias judgments…. close your eyes….pretend the vintech is the neve…..and pretend the neve is the vintech….. and see what happens…. it does mess with your mind. I found that little exercise helped me

  15. Neve just automatically hits the sweet spot, for me the Vintech is slighly colder and less focused, and bit boxy, though quite a good copy. You need good headphones to tell the difference, and for me a "small" variation in the sound might not seem so big of a deal, but it's fundamental in a sense of getting the sound right.

  16. there i virtually no difference. And if there is a difference it isn't gonna be the reason your song is gonna be a hit or not.
