I cannot believe all of you 7700 owners are upset by this. You're looking at it all wrong, you should be impressed. A 4 year old CPU (7700) still hangs with stuff coming out 4 years after it. That's impressive because computer technology advances ridiculously fast. The 7700 is still a great CPU for gaming and will be for a couple years to come. Pair it with a good GPU and you will only be 10-20% lower fps than some of the best newest Intel and ryzen CPUs. It's a very small difference, it's the GPU which matters the most.

I Tried my Sapphire nitro+ RX 570 8GB on a i9-9900k, and it's only like a 5-10% FPS difference.
and I got mi MOBO: Asus rog Maximus hero VIII for $110 and my 7700 (non-k) for $150 Back in 2019.
Now on April 2021, GPU and CPU market are crazy high, I3-10100 cost $160+ on newegg , and the best cheap CPU cost $200+ (because you're not going to sunk on a 2933Mhz Ram speed)

Last 10 years I'm Intel fan, now I'm going to AMD because they betrayed us with craps… 😐
Look how intel doesnt increase IPC over the years almost the same fps with 4/8 processsors and on other side look at ryzen 5 1600 and 5600x its a DOUBLE of fps and IPC
AMD made intel great again. BTW the i5 10400af looks like a great uprgrade for my i5 4690k. 6 very efficient, hight ipc cores, 12 threads for approx. 145€, again thank you amd.

i just upgraded from a i5 7600k to the i3 10100f the cpu and a decent z490 motherboard cost a little over what a used i7 7700 cost and i got on the new socket so unlocked a new upgrade path . i swear by this cpu now all my customer builds use it i can build a new system using all new parts minus a gpu for just over £300 i would use a 3300x but they are rare as fuck in the uk and because of this cost way to much saw one sell on ebay for £180 last night
This is why i dont believe in overbuying your pc because 'it will last longer'.
Maybe it will, or maybe intel and AMD will start an arms race and your i7 becomes worse than an i3
