So I have an i5 6500 It's decent I just need a better graphics card so I can at least run roblox on full graphics and also get higher quality on editing I can also get a 60 fps 1080p (sometimes even 4k )recording with OBS its just the grahpics card I need also normal ram with 12 gb
9:11 i had that same rig with 2133 mhz and i wasn't acheiving any of this performance whatsoever there must be something wrong here

wait. i thought 6th gen cpu's only supports 2100mhz ram.
Now an i3 8100 crushes it
On my bro's pc i5 6500 started underperforming. I tested it in Cinebench and CPU Z. And i got only 218 in Cinebench and 3800 in cou Z for multi-core. Anyone have any idea what could cause this problem ? It worked just fine few days ago.
You don't need a Z170k for overclock you can just rollback your bios on your motherboard, are you advertising this board or something?

After more than a year, been running stable on this setup (based on the results from this video, thanks!):

Could definitely go much higher, but I like keeping voltages low to offset the higher power draw due to disabling C-states and other power-saving features while BCLK overclocking.

I bought my i5 6500 like 6 months ago and only got done with my pc like 2 weeks ago.. i should probably have saved up more money and then choose better components but as i now have b150a gaming motherboard and i5 6500 i think that if i need to upgrade later i should probably do more research
Another case for locked processors vs unlocked:
CPU difference is about €20 when comparing like a 7600 and 7600k
A motherboard with similar features that does allow to overclock costs roughly €40 more than when going for one that doesn't allow for overclocking
And then you need an aftermarket cooler. The 212 evo costs about €30 here
20+40+30 = € 90
At that point you might just as well go with a locked i7, the price difference is about the same as going with an unlocked i5 processor. So, in that case going with a locked i5 CPU might be a good choice for the price/performance ratio.
Would the i5 6500 be good with a gtx 950? I play csgo, gmod, arma 3, squad (20 fps, which is why i wanna upgrade), bf4, and I wanna play pubg but it is broke. Is that a good 'setup'? I will be getting 2400 mhz as well

If you're purchasing a z170 motherboard you might as well just get an i5 6600k.
Memory can never bottleneck gaming.
