Lots of people asking about the X13. The first video was planned for Monday, but ASUS are just now telling me all performance data collected with the unit I have been sent may be invalid. This is after I spent 2x 15 hour days testing the 1650 in 15 games at 1080p and 720p, XG Mobile with laptop screen at 1080p, and XG mobile + external screen at 1080p, 1440p and 4K. Trying to confirm what the deal is and if they have to send over another sample for me to use.
Very cool I am totally gonna be doing a egpu setup next year. Just the rtx 3070 laptop for until when gpu stock is at a point to where I can walk in and pick up a 3080 ti/90 card off the shelf at a Bestbuy. 🙂
Nice video ! I hope you can get your hands on a h45 laptop, the comparison would be insanely interesting ! (I am currently rocking an aorus gaming box 1080 and 1065g7, but considering an upgrade to a 15 inch h45)
How are you doing a thunderbolt 4 comparison with a thunderbolt 3 egpu dock???
Also why test with the internal screen? Anyone docking will most likely be using an external monitor.
Would be curious to know whether a lower powered RTX 30×0 is enough to saturate the 40Gbps available via Thunderbolt 3/4.
Can i change thunderbolt 3 cable to thunderbolt 4?
For my day job I work with fiber optic networks. A port that supports a 10 gigabit per second laser module (sfp+) is about the size of an ethernet port (RJ11). So it amazes me that they are able to push 40Gps through USBc which is tiny by comparison and uses copper contacts a fraction of the size. A 100Gps laser port is about the size of an old school PCMCIA port (not practical with todays ultrabooks). But, If laser technology keeps getting progressively smaller I would imagine one day we'll have laptops with little, tiny optic ports with hot swappable lasers that can transfer at 100gps or more.
thunderbolt 4 enclosure let's go
Thank you for the comparison. Will you be testing with H45 skus?
What’s wrong with this guys voice?? He sounds like he’s on speed. I’m exhausted listening to him!!
so it may need TB 9 for achieving desktop performance
Hi, may I know for i7 1165g7, do I need to connect hdmi from egpu to monitor for better performance? Or it will be the same as it has integrated the thunderbolt controller?
I am currently using a i7 8565u and I am thinking to buy a nuc11pahi7, I am still thinking whether there will be a noticeable difference.
You might think I might better off buy a desktop instead of sacrificing fps due to bandwidth, but due to limited space I couldn't 🙁
Thanks so much!! And greattttttt video!!!!
Great video! The use case I'm most interested in I haven't seen yet though: Loopback to the laptop display. I'm curious if the increased PCIe BW requirement might improve performance for using the internal display. Perhaps not if the eGPU enclosure is still TB3? Or not at all because I'm dumb and that's not how it works? xD
This video seems very misleading. The thumbnail says TB3 vs TB4 and you open the video asking what kind of improvements can be had by TB4, but then you say that you're using a TB3 enclosure so you're not actually testing TB4 at all, you're testing 10th vs 11th gen processors over TB3. That's a valid thing to test too for people who don't want to upgrade their enclosure, but you're presenting it as a comparison of TB 3 and 4 which it is not when it's bottlenecked by the enclosure. I think you should re-label this video as a 10th vs 11th gen processor comparison then record a new video with a TB4 enclosure where you compare an 11th gen processor with each enclosure to get a pure TB3 vs TB4 comparison.
The difference between tb3 and tb4 is that tb3 has a chip outside the CPU to handle the data transmission and convert it and the transfer it in the CPU, in comparison with tb4 that the same chip is already inside the CPU without that many conversations and long wiring. So the main difference in papers is that tb4 has way less latency between the tb device and the CPU.
Does anyone know what the game was shown at 1:22?
This confirms how bad the REDengine is and why Cyberpunk sucks balls performance wise too.
Hey, I would like to ask
Even though both TB3 &TB4 has max speed up to 40Gb/s, TB3 has PCIe max speed at 16Gb/s, while TB4 has double the speed at 32Gb/s. Does it has major impact on technical terms eGPU gaming setup?
Why are the 4K and 1080p number so close
didn't expect the differences….great comparison Jarrod! but can you do a test with a lower end video card? rtx2060 or a 3060? really curious to see how much perf is left on the table when going with a lower tier of video card vs a lower tier laptop with the video card embedded
hi, do ou have review about i7-1165g7 vs i7-10750h?? I need the difference about both CPU.. i have 2 option laptop to buy
i7-1165g7 with MX450
or
i7-10750h with GTX650ti
I love playing games but I also need the laptop to work (basically CPU is the priority) but i need to play game too. and MX450 is big no for playing AAA game. so if both CPU dont have much diffrent then i will go for 10th gen. but if the different is huge I will go with 11st gen
Thanks for the video. I am switching to a 11th gen Razer Blade Stealth with a Razer Core X and a 3060Ti FE. PS: I returned my Razer Blade Stealth because the display has horrible latencies and the quadcore CPU is just too slow for many modern games. Furthermore the eGPU is crippled by the TB3 connection. I do recommend to get a Lenovo Legion 5 / 5i Pro laptop or a desktop PC with a slim notebook.
Thanks for the video. I am switching to a 11th gen Razer Blade Stealth with a Razer Core X and a 3060Ti FE
So I'm thinking about buying a thunderbolt laptop with the Razer Core X Chroma and ive got an 2060 super. Im not sure wether to buy an 1165 or 1065 laptop and your video helped me to get it more clear. But I dont really get the discussion wether the increased frame rates depend on the thunderbolt 4 or the processor. Like if im buying a laptop with the 1165 and thunderbolt 4 but not as high end as the razer balde (so with lower cpu power) is it better than buying a 1065 laptop in a high end version? Because then maybe the cpu performance is higher at the 1065 laptop but i "just" got thunderbolt 3 there. Hope you can help me with that and thanks for the nice video:)
how do you think can you connect a egpu to a thunderbolt 3 dock station then connect the dock station to the laptop
Thank you very much for uploading this video! Super interesting🔥🔥
Hello can I get noticed?
The eGPU performs not really well for current H series CPUs because the communication between CPU and GPU must go through PCH. As for the 10 gen and 11 gen CPUs, Intel has moved the thunderbolt controller into the CPU instead of running it under PCH, which already solves a lot of the latency issues. Plus, the maximum bandwidth of thunderbolt 4 remains the same as last-gen. So I think it makes sense that the eGPU improvement isn't that significant between Ice Lake and Tiger Lake.
As TB4 has the same transfer speed as TB3, is it possible these sometimes sizable increases are from PCIe Gen 4?
So, I honestly like the comparison, very nicely done, very unbiased and quite thorough. However in the future with external gpu videos like this, would it be possible go see a comparison of blender renders?
I just want to see how much better than TB3 if there are TB4 eGPU.
Thanks Jad, super interesting as always
me with intel hd graphique :interresting
Should i go for Lenovo legion 5 amd r7 and rtx 2060 ?
please talk normal!
Yo Jarrod I would like to ask you about the QHD screen Please.
If I let the res goes down from 1440p to 1080p, for more fps, will the screen go blurry ?
I’d think that memory speed increase helps here too. We use to show this back in Haswell desktop days. Fun times 👍
