Tech Spurt can you do a revisit video on the Xperia 1 on how its doing now and has it improved since 1yr now.. I see 1 for $295 is it worth $295 now?

Gorgeous phone.. Shame about the tiny battery, no headphone jack, huge display, and the 4k battery hog.. 1440p 6.2" would have been perfect.

I'll pick up the Xperia 5 sometime next year.

I got this phone a couple of days ago, coming from a P20 pro. And there are a number of surprises. Firstly the form factor makes it really stand out from the pack of square blobs. And this is not just about aesthetics. The narrow form factor makes it much more comfortable to hold over long periods of times. Secondly I'm really surprised that nobody mentioned the finish. Apart from being gorgeous, it does not attract fingerprints, so it always looked nice. I don't know what Sony have done to make this happen, but it is a real bonus that the phone looks good and not messy, if you are one (like myself) that doesn't use protectors.

As far as the other stuff goes, well the screen is to die for. Laser sharp.. makes screens on other phones look ordinary. Then there is the incredible performance. Now, I don't know if I am behind the curb, but this thing flies. Admittedly, I am coming from a P20 Pro, so a couple of years old, but the performance difference between them is night and day. For example if you install apps and blink, the download would have already happened and the app would be installing. Incredible stuff. Also, it is just simply super responsive.

Then the camera. Okay so it hasn't got a night mode, that makes pictures taken in the dark as if it was bright sunlight. But you do have, is a lot of manual controls and brilliant colour accuracy and resolution. In many ways, it is superior to my P20, with the exception that it lacks the 'let turn night into day' mode. And to be frank, I do miss this from Sony. But the phone makes up in so many other ways, I can overlook this omission.

Well done Sony. So is this a phone for everybody? No. Not if you want to blend in with the crowd and are not prepared to learn how to use a manual camera. But if you are prepared to engage with a little bit of effort, not only will you feel better for doing so, but you will enjoy your investment far more. I like the fact that phone makes you work a little bit more harder than a typical Samsung clone. For this reason, I can't see myself getting bored with this after 5 minutes, as I would have if I had not stuck my neck out and gone with one of the 'also rans'.

It's a nice phone and I hope that future updates take it from being very good to stellar and first in its class!!
