The gross domestic product is the ultimate yardstick of a country’s economy. An increase means companies are making profits and the economy is growing. But if there’s negative economic growth for two consecutive quarters, however, it’s recession time. This is why all eyes and ears are on the business gurus and their forecasts for the GDP.

The Composition of Gross Domestic Product
Measuring gross domestic product (GDP) gives us an idea of the total production of an economy over a particular period. GDP is made up of the total market value of all final goods and services produced in an economy (but that doesn’t include government transfers). The formula to remember is Y = C + I + G + X.
