Benefits of having a credit card in Thailand
Although it is not essential to have one, there are many benefits of having a local credit card compared to using one from your home country.
We absolutely suggest you get one if you meet the requirements.
Some of the benefits include:
Saving money on foreign currency surcharges. Having a local one means that you won’t have any extra surcharges as you would with your foreign one.
Benefits such as discounts at restaurants, for travel and cash backs helps you save money and are only available when using local credit cards, not foreign ones.
Utilities and phone bills can directly be cut from your local credit. Are saving you time to queue up.
Points earned can be used to redeem for gifts or flight tickets with Thai Airways or Bangkok Airways with some cards also offering free lounge access at the airport.
Allows you to build your credit status with the banks, which could be useful for other banking products such as loans etc.

Have a minimum monthly salary of 50,000 THB.
Have at least one year working experience.
The document required are:
Passport, Visa and valid work permit (at least 6 months validity left).

THE GOOD:
1. Make sure you review your credit card statements diligently so you can stay on top of your spending.
2. Always pay your statement bill ontime to avoid late payment fees!
3. Pay off your full balance every month to avoid running up HUGE debts that take years to clear!
4. Never just pay the minimum payment due!
5. Reduce your credit limit if you cannot control your spending!
6. Protect yourself from Credit Card Fraud!
THE BAD:
1. Using ‘Rewards’ programs as a flimsy excuse to spend more money.
2. You picked the very first credit card and did absolutely no research as to which card offers the best deals.
THE UGLY:
1. You own 5 or more different credit cards!
2. You exceed 255 and more of your credit line [This can seriously affect your credit score].
3. You are using your credit card just to live and going deeper and deeper into debt each month.
4. You buy things of no value that you seriously don’t need!
FACT: Credit cards can be awesome IF you use them correctly. But IF you misuse them, they can quickly ruin you financially!
