The Lady Be Good, a B-24 Liberator from the 749th Bomb Squadron, 457th Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force, embarked on its first and final mission during World War II. Piloted by 1st Lieutenant William Hatton, the aircraft took off from North Africa on April 4, 1943, for a bombing raid over Italy. On its return journey, the crew became disoriented, overshooting their base and crashing deep into the Libyan desert. Lost for over 15 years, the wreckage was discovered in 1958, revealing a haunting tale of survival and endurance as the crew attempted to traverse the unforgiving desert in search of rescue.
