This thing looks sick. Just ordered a refurbished one off new egg. Wanted something modern but also able to utilize the Expresscard for 1394 capture.
I just bought this laptop. In 2020, still does the job! Photoshop & web design on a QHD screen.
With the docking station I push to 11 USB ports. 6x USB 3.0, 3x USB 2, 2x USB/msata.
Inside : M2 for SSD and a second one dedicated to wwan (but I bet it can handle a SSD too) and 2x 2.5 slots.
4 SSDs so far. Then you can use the optical bay to add a HDD/SSD caddy and one more with the expresscard slot.
6 SSD, 11 USB ports 😄
i just buy this machine even with i5-4310m and quadro K2100m still beast on the budget
Just bought a maxed out one for $220 on eBay. It's still a beast in 2020!

When I was looking for a new laptop earlier this year I settled on the M6800 for the same reasons as you. It's literally the most powerful old-school laptop available. I love it!
5 stars from me. I bought it refurbished on Ebay a year ago for not much money but spent more money upgrading it. I use it daily as I don't have a desktop PC. I have Windows 10 running with 16GB RAM on a 500MB SSD mSata minicard. I have a 2TB mSata SSD disk and I installed the 2TB traditional disk from my old laptop in place of the DVD drive. I use it mainly for processing photos (Canon DPP, Lightroom etc). Photos are on the 2TB SSD and I backup to the old disk. It is certainly a heavy laptop but it's fast, robust and I hope it will keep me going for the next few years.
I love this thing so much that I bought a second one w/Windows 10 (my first one has CentOS 7 Linux on it on which I'm running Blender 3D and Blackmagic Fusion). These are the S__T! Looking for an M6800 as of this writing. If you can get a good one, do so.
my current gaming pc. if your on a budget and cant spends thousands this is great. there is only a few games it cant play. like fallout 76 but who really wants to play that anyway. i would not be surprised if it actually was the games fault.
just got one, cant figure out how to turn the blue tooth.

Update: I have now owned this laptop for 3 weeks, I paid 520 dollars for it refurbished on amazon. I use this machine almost daily for college and running multiple VM's. I also do photo editing and alot of typing with word. First off, the keyboard is amazing and the the mousepad is in the perfect space and size for home row typing. The pointer nipple thing is pretty garbage imo but I highly recomend pairing this with a logitech trackball, the typing and mouse feel is fantastic. The battery life runs you about 2 hours on full power with windows 10 but can last up to 4 hours with battery saver. I really enjoy running debian 9 on this machine, as well as ubuntu mate, they run pretty smoothly but theres some bugs with the bluetooth. Overall the machine still runs really well and I'd personally say outright kills most modern competition in this price range.
