Hey Bingocat, I know this video is a little old but my first time watching it. I recently fixed up a Dell Precision m4500. This seems to be one from 2010 with an i7-820qm and 8 gb ram and I have Windows 10 on it. I still feel that you can do more with Windows than Linux.

My middle school had these laptops
have windows10 installed on this machine and very often running puppylinux from usb stick. Touchpad is a bit slow and unresponsive in windows and working temperature is a bit higher on the other hand, puppylinux is stunning fast but for this fullhd display is better to test another distributive, like Ubuntu or Linuxlite with bigger fonts and icons.
How did u get it for 200 dollars? 😮

I recently bought the same sold by the company I work for. My company has policy to sell laptops used more than 3 years by employees on very good price. So I grabbed one and installed Linux Mint 19.1 on it but I had problems with going back from suspend. The problem is very well described on the Arch Wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dell_Latitude_E7440 and the suggested workaround works like a charm up to now. No other issues found.

I have a Dell e7440 (CPU: i7-4600u, 256 GB SSD, 4 GB RAM). I have installed Lubuntu on it. This is a very light-weight distro. Thus it boots very fast (8 seconds). The only problem i have is not getting audio from HDMI output, which I think there must be a solution.
You must check Dell website ( https://www.dell.com/support/home/de/de/debsdt1/product-support/product/latitude-e7440-ultrabook/drivers ) for recent BIOS updates. Even though this laptop is at least 4 years old, and even though it has EOL, firmware updates are still coming. Recent BIOS update A27 is 31 October 2018.
