A stock market is one of the “thermometers” of a country’s economy, and last year Vietnam’s market saw many ups and downs but still made historic breakthroughs, creating a solid foundation for 2021.

The main stock market in Vietnam is the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE or HSX), which is situated in Ho Chi Minh City. The Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Center (HoSTC), together with the Hanoi Securities Trading Center, was established in 2000 as an administrative agency of the State Securities Commission.
There are 396 listings on the exchange, and they are denominated in Vietnamese dongs. Vietnam limits foreign ownership of listed companies to 49%. From 4/1/2021, HOSE has officially raised the minimum number of stock transactions from 10 to 100.
Vietnam’s economy is a socialistoriented market economy that is the world’s 36th biggest in terms of nominal gross domestic product (GDP) and the world’s 23rd largest in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP).
Vietnam has been transitioning from a highly centralized command economy to a mixed economy that employs both directive and indicative planning through fiveyear plans with assistance from an open marketbased economy since the mid1980s, thanks to the I Mi reform era. During that time, the economy grew at a breakneck pace.
Vietnam is undergoing a phase of global economic integration in the twentyfirst century.
Almost of Vietnamese businesses are small or mediumsized (SMEs). Vietnam has established itself as a top agricultural exporter and a desirable investment location in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam’s economy currently relies heavily on foreign direct investment to draw funds from abroad in order to maintain its economic discipline.
To assist the highend tourism business, foreign investment in luxury hotels and resorts will increase.
According to a February 2017 projection by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Vietnam’s economy may be the world’s fastestgrowing, with a projected annual GDP growth rate of around 5.1 percent, making it the world’s 20thlargest by 2050.
Vietnam has also been named to the CIVETS and Next Eleven lists.
Despite the country’s economic progress since Doi Moi, there are still concerns that have many experts and scholars concerned about the country’s current economic downturn.
As of March 2018, Vietnam’s economy was still growing, with the greatest yearly growth rate in over a decade, prompting media outlets to suggest that it may become one of Asia’s tigers in the near future.
Vietnam’s economy, according to DBS Bank, has the potential to grow at a rate of 6%6.5 percent by 2029. Because of its high foreign investment inflow and productivity development, Vietnam’s economy might overtake Singapore within the next decade.
Vietnam is emerging as a new Asian manufacturing powerhouse, particularly for Korean and Japanese companies. Samsung, for example, manufactures around 40% of its phones in Vietnam.
A substantial automobile sector has emerged in the last decade. As of 2019, Samsung employs approximately 200,000 people in the Hanoi region of Vietnam to manufacture smartphones, with some products being outsourced to China and major sections of the phones being manufactured in India.
